Works like a charm!
Works like a charm!
Loads quickly, works flawlessly. Extensive database of words. Excellent app (and website).
The pronunciations are correct and the words available fairly comprehensive, but the audio quality is very poor. It's like they got a competent person to record the words, but used the cheapest, tinniest tape recorder from radio shack to record the words with. What a shame; if the audio quality were even half way decent this could be five stars.
I’ve this app on my iPhone as well as on my Samsung and I must say I can’t function without it. Full marks to the developers. Love you guys and please do keep up the great work!!!
I have to ask repeatedly for words to be added. It’s very annoying. The app develops are not responsive
Growing up I didn’t learn to read by embracing phonics. For me, words themselves were intricate pictures with audible names I remembered by their overall appearance. I was 70 years old before I realized why I had no idea how others could pronounce words they had never heard spoken before or spell words they had never seen. This app has been a tremendous help to me in my ongoing process of learning to apply phonics to my speech and writing endeavors.
I paid for access to this app but now it seems that they have moved to a yearly subscription. If you have customers who paid for the app when it was a single payment for access, they should be grandfathered into access to the app. I was a loyal customer but I am not going to keep paying you. Very bad business practice!
👌🏾
This app has improved greatly from the first version
The best app since sliced bread Can’t get along without it.
Outstanding. !Out of the park... ?🙏🏾Dark Mode🙏🏾? You've all done very well🥂
I use this app often! Very helpful even in everyday life!
This app has been so useful, I’ve been using it for years. Clear precise pronunciation, enunciated by a real person, no synthetic voices. If a word has multiple pronunciations, for instance American and British, you hear both. Worth every penny of its modest price!
I paid for Unlimited Access but cannot use it to get it to play the pronunciation.
I’m outta here. This was great app for a long time but now every time I try to look up a word it just so happens it’s not a “free word” and they want money. There’s too many places that I can do this for free.
It used to be great, but now they’re charging money, I use Google pronounce and it works great too - and it’s free!!
There is not possibility to have the translation the box of languages is not active
I stopped usung this when the paywall went up. Plenty sites which guve pronunciations for free
I have used this app for years since they had a website version. They offer the best prononciation by far, even much better than Google.
I appreciate having this app because it helps me respect other culture’ s words and pronunciations. The speaker has a lovely voice that is easy to understand. Thank you for providing this valuable resource.
I have been using howjsay.com more than 11 years and I am glad that they actually made this app. I really Dont like these synthetic/robotic tones for pronunciation. This app&website is thee best for learning
Howjsay has been a boon in clarifying the proper pronunciation of many words, particularly those that are seldom used in ordinary speech but in professional contexts.
A charge nurse I use to work with told me about the app.....it works great!!!! it has been a liable resource for me.......... she has passed away and every time I open this app, I think about how she always try to help me💯
Thanks for expanding your word base to the more complex and difficult words too. I also appreciate that you make your app compatible with iOS 9 on my older iPad. This is a worthwhile tool to subscribe to, if you want clear and precise British articulation of English words. I would like to hear more differentiations between British and American pronunciations though.
Love this us intelligent

This app is a must for people who need to say it right the first time ever
I am a language scholar and often give talks on the subject. My specific interest is etymology. Howjsay is an essential app for linguists...or those simply interested in English and its usage. It is quite simply the one app I could not live without. Everything else is expendable!!!!!
I use this all the time. It’s a great way to expand your vocabulary through confidence in pronunciation.
Howjsay is perfect.
This is the greatest app. It helps me pronounce so many medical and pharmaceutical names. I use it so much at work. I highly recommend it. Excellent!
When it comes to pronunciation, the internet is the Wild West. They just take a few people and have them say the word and don’t check to see how correct the pronunciation is. Frequently, I feel their method of saying the word is incorrect. I go to many sources to see what is the real standard. I find the Oxford Dictionary is very good, (sometimes swayed too much by Britain’s pronunciations), American heritage is excellent but Howsay is almost always right on!
A&P is challenging enough without considering the pronunciation of the medical terminology that comes with it. This app makes my life so much easier. Hallelujah!
I love new words and this is my go to app when I need CORRECT pronunciation
This is a great app to use if you suffer with dyslexia. Sometimes hearing to the words pronounced aids with the learning the phonics of the words. Also, useful to see the words broken down in phonics and definition, then listen to the app pronunciation ensuring you have pronounced the word correctly.
I love this app; hate the name. But who cares about the name? I have it on all my devices. They should imbed it in the system software. There are so many such apps in which the pronunciations are simply wrong. This app is even offers regional, alternate and divided usage pronunciations. Plus, I love the urbane, erudite voice employed: sort of understated upper crust British.
Most helpful while reading my Wall Street Journal Opinion page. Beautifully written but several words I didn’t know the meaning. You of course were able to give me the pronunciation & meaning. Articles make sense. Depend on your app more than the Webster Dictionary app.
Howjsay is a wonderful and quick tool to find out how to pronounce words during a read aloud!
So Pleased to find this app with definitions, etc! But a choice of voice would be nice. I looked for that right away since the one used is very soft.
Fantastic App !!
This is one of my go-to apps that I use all the time so I don’t sound like a dummy. Thank you!
Please solve this problem! Or I will contact apple to get the refund.
Latin phrases, medical terms, expressions in foreign languages, this app pronounces it all.
Used the app. for various purposes, especially for translation and pronouncing — as apps come and fade, this one is my top app over the years.
Greatest app I have! How did I live without it! Thanks Just got home.
Difficult to understand and not clear. Sounds slurred. Contains most of the words I looked for. I did not find it much more helpful that looking the word up in the dictionary.
I don’t know why, but I probably use this app more than any other app on my phone. It’s really handy if you want to be sure you’re not flubbing a word and embarrassing yourself.
Absolutely indispensable app! Every thinking person, without exception, should utilize it for spell checking.
When reading I often come across words I don't know how to pronounce. This app lets me know and my reading flows onward.
Thank you How J Say for pronouncing words that are vital to my vocabulary
I think this app is good for speaking great
